Araf 19-21
19- “O ADAM, ABIDE IN THE GARDEN WITH YOUR WIFE, AND EAT FROM WHATEVER YOU LIKE THEREIN, BUT DO NOT TOUCH THIS TREE, THEN YOU WILL BE OF THE TRANSGRESSORS. 20- THE DEVIL WHISPERED TO THEM IN ORDER TO SHOW THEM WHAT WAS HIDDEN OF THEIR PRIVATE PARTS, AND SAID: “YOUR LORD HAS FORBIDDEN YOU THIS TREE SO THAT YOU MAY NOT BECOME ANGELS OR IMMORTAL. 21- AND HE SWORE TO THEM: “I AM GIVING YOU GOOD ADVICE”
Allah the Highest placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Paradise where they lived in great comfort. They were provided with every thing they needed and wanted without having to work for it. They could go any where they like and eat and drink any thing they wanted. They did not feel heat or cold. Their comfort was complete and the inconvenience nil. However, they had to be tested like all human beings after them. This is the Policy of Allah the Highest who said: “DID PEOPLE THINK THAT THEY WILL BE LEFT FOR SAYING: “WE BELIEVE WITHOUT BEING TRIED AND TESTED”. (S:29 A:2) Their test was simply to prevent them from approaching or eating from a single tree, one single tree in the whole garden. Allah the Highest did not leave them without warning of Iblis their enemy, who was going to do his best to get them out of the Paradise. Iblis whispered quietly into their hearts but with very powerful temptation, that is If they eat or of the forbidden tree, their will become angles and will live forever. Living forever is a particularly powerful temptation for mankind; see what people do and spend on drugs and herbs to lengthen their lives, and even paying fortunes to have their bodies preserved or frozen, until such time comes when a way for living eternally is discovered. Adam forgot, and gave in to the temptation. He forgot also that even if the tree can give him eternal life, this would happen only with Allah’s permission, for nothing happens without his permission “AND WE HAVE ENTRUSTED ADAM BEFOREHAND BUT HE FORGOT AND WE DID NOT FIND HIM STRONG WILLED”. (S:20 A:115) It is interesting that when we read about the history of Adam and Eve in the Quran, we find Allah the Highest to be blaming both of them or Adam alone. There is not a verse which blames Eve particularly for giving in to the temptation, or for tempting Adam. There is no mention of a serpent either. In fact Adam seems to carry the brunt of the blame, which for a presumably anti female religion, should be very strange. But that is if Islam is truly an anti female religion.
