Araf 22-23

22- HE (IBLIS) LOWERED THEM THROUGH FALSE HOPES, AND WHEN THEY TASTED THE TREE, THEY SAW THEIR PRIVATE PARTS.  THEY THEN KEPT TRYING TO COVER THEMSELVES FROM THE LEAFS OF THE TREES OF THE GARDEN, AND THEIR LORD CALLED THEM SAYING: “DID I NOT FORBID YOU THIS TREE, AND TOLD YOU THAT THE DEVIL IS YOUR CLEAR ENEMY?”

23- THEY SAID: “OUR LORD, WE HAVE WRONGED OUR OWN SOULS, AND IF YOU DO NOT FORGIVE US AND HAVE MERCY UPON US, WE WILL BE OF THE LOSERS”.

Adam and Eve lived in the Garden in comfort as Allah the Highest promised him.  Allah the Highest said: “WE SAID: “O ADAM, THIS (IBLIS) IS AN ENEMY FOR YOU AND FOR YOUR WIFE, DO NOT LET HIM GET YOU OUT OF THE GARDEN FOR THEN YOU WILL SUFFER * FOR THERE (IN THE GARDEN) YOU WILL NOT GO HUNGRY OR BE NAKED * AND YOU WILL BE THIRSTY THERE OR SUFFER THE HEAT OF THE SUN”.  (S: 20 117-119)

Adam and eave were dressed in the garden and covered, at least their private parts were.  It is not known exactly how were they covered and with what exactly, yet they were covered according to these Ayahs. Once they broke up their covenant with Allah the Highest of not touching the forbidden tree, Allah the Highest took away the bounties bestowed upon them, and the first thing they noticed was that they lost their cloths with, and they found themselves naked.  It is Allah’s policy with mankind since its creation; Allah the Highest keeps His covenant with us as long as we keep our covenant with Him.  As in saying “IF YOU SUPPORT ALLAH’S (RELIGION) HE SUPPORTS YOU AND MAKES YOUR FOOTHOLD FIRM”.  (S: 47 A: 7)

In  the mean time, Allah the Highest promised those who plead for forgiveness to be forgiven and to provide for them, saying: “PLEAD FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR LORD, FOR HE IS MOST FORGIVING * HE WILL SEND YOU PLENTY OF RAIN FROM HEAVEN * AND WILL LET YOU HAVE GARDENS AND WILL LET YOU HAVE RIVERS”.  (S: 71 A: 10-12)

They then new that they have done wrong and, and contrary to what Iblis did when he erred, they pleaded for Allah’s forgiveness, and with humility. 

Adam and Eve were lowered from the Garden because of their disobedience, yet still provided with plenty to eat and drink and without much effort.  However, now they had to do more labour for eating and drinking, make their cloths, and feel the heat and cold, which was not the case in the Garden.  The lowering could have been physical from one place to another, or it could have been lowering of their status.  We do not know for sure.

This is a lesson for us to remember; whenever we feel that Allah the Highest abandons us, we should look at ourselves, very hard and critically to see our shortcomings in our relationship with Allah the Highest and if we are not fulfilling our covenants with him.  When we find out our sin or disobedience, we should hurry to pleading for forgiveness and to get back on the right Path, and will find Allah the Highest Most Forgiving and Most Generous in Reward.

We should also remember that whenever we are given a bounty from Allah the Highest, it carries within it a test and temptation like what happened with our forefathers, Adam and Eve.
