Araf 138-141

138- AND WE TOOK THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL ACROSS THE SEA, AND THEN THEY CAME TO PEOPLE WHO WENT ON WORSHIPPING THEIR IDLES FOR A WHILE, THEY (THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL) SAID: “O MOSES, LET US HAVE AN IDLE GOD AS THEY HAVE IDLE GODS”.  HE SAID: “YOU ARE IGNORANT PEOPLE”.

139- “WHAT THOSE PEOPLE DO WILL PERISH AND WHAT THEY DO IS FALSE AND EVIL”.

140- HE (MOSES) SAID: “HOW COULD I SEEK YOU A GOD OTHER THAN ALLAH WHEN HE HAS FAVOURED YOU TO ALL MANKIND”.

141- AND WE HAVE SAVED YOU FROM PHARAOH’S PEOPLE, WHO MADE YOU TASTE THE WORST PUNISHMENT, THEY KILLED YOUR SONS AND LET YOUR FEMALES LIVE, AND IN THIS IS A GREAT AFFLICTION FROM YOUR LORD.

The Children of Israel had a long chain of the prophets of Allah the Highest.  Also they lived Egypt which was idle worshipping at the time, and Allah the Highest sent them Moses, peace upon him, to take them out of that environment.  They saw many of the miracles of Allah the Highest in Egypt and then they escaped from pharaoh and his army by the great miracle of the splitting of the Red sea.  They should have been the last people to want anything to do with idle worshipping, and their belief in Allah the Highest should have been unshakable.

Yet, as they travelled through Sinai, they passed by an idle worshipping people, worshipping their idles and staying with them for a while.  The Children of Israel, asked Moses to have idles to worship like them.    Moses, peace upon him, rebuked his people, telling them that those idle worshippers were ignorant and that what they were doing was false and evil.   How could they think about worshipping an idle when Allah the Highest favoured them above all nations at the time and supported them with His messenger and many miracles?

Most of All, Allah the Highest saved them from the persecution of pharaoh and his people, who used to kill their male infants, but let the females live, to keep them week and subservient.  

After all they had been through and all that Allah the Highest did for them, they sought an idle to worship instead of Allah.

It will be shown later that once Moses went away on his appointment with Allah the Highest for forty days, the Children of Israel made a golden idle in the form of a calf and worshipped it.  They were still determined to worship idles.  They worship the idles of money and power today.
