71- YOU WHO BELIEVE BE ON YOUR GUARD, SO MARCH IN DETACHMENTS OR MARCH ALL TOGETHER.
72- AMONGST YOU THERE ARE THOSE WHO LAG BEHIND, SO IF AN AFFLICTION BEFALLS YOU HE SAYS: “ALLAH HAS BEEN GRACIOUS HAVING NOT BEEN WITH THEM”.
73- BUT IF ALLAH BESTOWS HIS BOUNTY UPON YOU, HE SAYS AS IF YOU HAVE NO TIES OR AFFECTION: “I WISH I WAS WITH THEM, I WOULD HAVE WON A GREAT VICTORY”.
74- LET THOSE WHO SELL THE LOWER LIFE FOR THE HEREAFTER FIGHT IN THE ALLAH’S CAUSE, AND HE WHO FIGHT’S IN ALLAH’S CAUSE AND IS KILLED OR WINS, WE WILL GIVE HIM A GREAT REWARD.
75- SO WHY DO YOU NOT FIGHT IN THE CAUSE OF ALLAH AND FOR THE WEAKENED MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO SAY: “OUR LORD DELIVER US FROM THIS TOWN, FOR ITS PEOPLE ARE UNJUST, AND BE OUR ALLY AND OUR SUPPORTER”.
76- THOSE WHO BELIEVE FIGHT IN THE CAUSE OF ALLAH AND THOSE WHO DISBELIEVE FIGHT IN THE CAUSE OF EVIL. FIGHT SATAN’S ALLIES, FOR THE CUNNING OF SATAN IS VERY WEEK INDEED.
Allah the Highest is telling us to be always on our guard and ready to fight our enemies or potential enemies.
- There are among us those who fear fighting, therefore if the Muslims fight their enemy and are afflicted, they will be please and wrongly think that Allah the Highest saved them. Yet if they win, he will hope he fought with them to have the honour and the bounty of war.
- The Muslim nation should always be prepared with the strongest force possible. Allah the Highest said: “AND PREPARE FOR THEM ALL THE FORCE AND CAVALRY YOU CAN, TO STRIKE TERROR INTO THE ENEMIES OF ALLAH AND YOUR ENEMIES, AS WELL AS OTHERS YOU DO NOT KNOW BUT ALLAH KNOWS, AND YOU WILL BE RECOMPENSED IN FULL FOR WHAT YOU SPEND IN THE CAUSE OF ALLAH, AND YOU WILL NOT BE UNJUSTLY TREATED”. (S:8 A:60)
- Depending on the situation and the force the Muslims face, they should march in detachments or all together. Allah the Highest also said: “GO FORTH LIGHTLY OR HEAVILY EQUIPPED”. (S:9 A:41)
The Muslims should answer the call to fight in the cause of Allah under any condition and in all circumstances, lightly or heavily equipped, for victory happens because of Allah not our equipment and numbers.
- Allah the highest is promising those who fight in his cause a great reward regardless of the outcome of the fight. We should remember that the duty of the Muslim is to fight, but the outcome is in Allah’s hands.
- The Muslims should fight in the cause of Allah whenever there is and for the men, women and children oppressed and persecuted by disbelievers anywhere and at any time. Their support is a duty and an obligation. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Support your brother whether he is unjust or persecuted”. He was asked: “We support him for being persecuted, but how do we support him when unjust?” He said: “By correcting him”. (B:Mazalem;4 & T:Fetan;38 & Da:Reqaq;40 & A:3;99,101)
Also Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him commanded the Muslims to “Support the persecuted”. (B: Janaez; 2 & M: Lebas; 3 & Adab; 45 & N: Eman; 13 & A: 4; 284)
- Allah the Highest clarifies the difference between the believers and disbeliever’s fight. It depends on the cause, which is what every side is fighting for.
Those fighting in the cause of Allah are fighting against things Allah the Highest prohibited like, injustice, persecution, and for freedom of faith. The disbelievers fight for evil reasons, and for gains in this life. They fight for wealth, influence, supremacy, power and pride, and they are all evil reasons for fighting and shedding blood.
- Those who fight for evil causes are Satan’s allies. They have Satan to support them, while the believers have Allah the Highest to support them if they are fighting for His cause. If the believers truly believe and fight for Allah’s cause, then they should not fear, as Satan’s Cunning is weak. In this situation, Allah the Highest said: “THEY WILL NOT CAUSE YOU ANY HARM BUT CAUSE YOU ANNOYANCE, AND IF THEY FIGHT YOU, THEY WILL TURN THEIR BACKS TO YOU AND WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED”. (S:3 A:111)
Allah the Highest tells us that the each true believer patient and persevering in battle is more than ten disbelievers. Then Allah the Highest made it easier for the believers, saying that every patient and persevering believer is stronger than two disbelievers, He said: “O PROPHET, ENTHUSE THE BELIEVERS TO FIGHT, IF THERE ARE TWENTY OF YOU PATIENT AND PERSEVERING THEY WILL DEFEAT TWO HUNDRED AND IF THERE IS A HUNDRED OF YOU PATIENT AND PERSEVERING, THEY WILL DEFEAT A THOUSAND OF THOSE WHO DISBELIEVE, FOR THEY ARE PEOPLE OF NO UNDERSTANDING * NOW ALLAH LIGHTENED UP YOUR BURDEN AND KNOWS THAT YOU HAVE SOME WEAKNESS, SO IF THERE IS A HUNDRED OF YOU PATIENT AND PERSEVERING, THEY DEFEAT TWO HUNDRED, AND IF THERE IS A THOUSAND OF YOU THEY DEFEAT TWO THOUSAND, WITH ALLAH’S PERMISSION, FOR ALLAH IS WITH THOSE WHO ARE PATIENT AND PERSEVERE”. (S: 8 A: 65-66)
Let us see what happened in reality in the early Muslims battles:
In Badr 2nd year Hejri 317 Muslims defeated 100 disbelievers.
In Moatah few years later 3000 Muslims fought off 200 000 Romans and their allies for three day, they thy managed to withdraw safely on the fourth day.
In Yarmok against the Roman Empire, 30 000 Muslims defeated over 200 000 Roman soldiers.
In Qadisyah against the Persian Empire, about 36 000 Muslims defeated 200 000 Persian soldier.
Allah’s promise is true indeed.
