102- AND IF YOU WERE WITH THEM AND LEAD THEM IN THE SALAH, LET A GROUP OF THEM STAND UP TO PRAY WITH YOU, AND LET THEM TAKE THEIR WEAPONS. WHEN THEY FINISH PROSTRATING, LET THEM BE AT YOUR REAR AND LET ANOTHER GROUP WHICH DID NOT PRAY YET PRAY WITH YOU, AND LET THEM TAKE THEIR WEAPONS. MANY DISBELIEVERS WISH YOU TO NEGLECT YOUR WEAPONS AND BELONGINGS THEN THEY WILL ALL CHARGE AT YOU. THERE IS NO BLAME UPON YOU IF YOU ARE SUFFERING FROM THE RAIN OR IF YOU ARE SICK TO PUT YOUR WEAPONS DOWN, BUT BE VERY CAUTIOUS; CERTAINLY ALLAH PREPARED A HUMILIATING PUNISHMENT FOR THE DISBELIEVERS.
103- WHEN YOU FINISH THE SALAH THEN REMEMBER ALLAH, STANDING, SITTING AND LYING DOWN ON YOUR SIDES. THEN WHEN YOU ARE SAFE, STEADFAST IN THE SALAH, FOR THE SALAH, FOR THE BELIEVERS IS A DUTY AT APPOINTED TIMES.
These Ayahs shows us the great importance of the Salah. Salah is so important that it has to be performed even when the Muslim army stands facing the enemy about to engage in battle. It should be performed as follows: A portion of the army stands behind the Imam to pray one Rakaa, while the rest is guarding, neither group should put their weapons down to pray. Then those who were guarding pray one Rakaa behind the Imam and the rest guard.
Indeed, even while the fighting is going one, the Muslim should pray one Rakaa, carrying his weapon, facing any direction, and just nodding with his head for Rokoo (bowing) and prostrating.
This shows us:
The great importance of the Salah, so that there is very few exemptions from it.
There is nothing the Muslims need more while they are about to fight an enemy, than to have Allah’s support.
In Ayah 103 Allah the Highest tells us that:
1-We should remember Allah the Highest after each Salah and between one Salah and the next.
Poor Muslims went to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and said: “Wealthy people shall have the highest grades and the greatest pleasures in the Hereafter. They pray as we pray and fast as we fast, but they have more than their needs, they use it to go on Hej and Omrah, Jihad and to give charity”. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Shall I tell you what if you do, you will catch up with those ahead of you, then no one will catch up with you, and you become the best on earth except for those who do as you do; praise Allah, Thank Him and glorify His (saying Sobhan Allah, Al-Hamdo LeAllah, Allah Akbar) 33 times after each Salah. They differed among themselves as to whether it will be 33 times each, or 33 times collectively. (B: Azan; 150 & M: Zekr, 80-81 & D: Adab; 100 & T: Mawaqeet, 185 & Mal: Quran; 22)
2- Zekr can be done in all times and circumstances. This is discussed in Detail in Sorah Baqarah Ayah 152.
3- Salah can be performed in any position if the Muslim can not stand up to pray due to illness or disability. One can pray sitting down or lying down or even just with their eyes.
When a group of people are praying behind an Emam, they should pray as he prays, that is to say stand if he is standing, and site if he is sitting. It is reported that Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was ill, and some of his companions went to visit him. At the time of the Salah, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him prayed sitting and his companions prayed behind him standing. He pointed to them to site down and they sate down. After the Salah he said to them: “The Emam (Leader) is there to be followed; so if he bows you bow, if he prostrates you prostrate and if he prays sitting down, pray sitting down”. (M: Salah; 82)
Allah the Highest reminds us at the end that the Salah is a duty upon the Muslims. It should be performed at the appointed times. Allah the Highest gave His messenger prayer and peace upon him the command about the Salah in a direct command to His messenger prayer and peace upon him who was raised up to heaven then. Each Salah is rewarded by the Reward of Fifty.
Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him had Gabriel coming to teach him how to pray and the times of the Salah twice, one at the beginning of the time and another at the end of the time for the Salah.
One can not stress enough the value an importance of the Salah. It is enough to know that the very first thing of our deeds we will have to answer to as Muslims on the Day of Judgement is our Salah.
