Nesae 111-112

111- HE WHO EARNS A SIN, HE EARNS IT AGAINST HIS OWN SOUL, AND ALLAH IS MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE AND MOST WISE.

112- AND HE WHO EARNS A WRONG DEED OR A SIN THEN ACCUSES AN INNOCENT PERSON; HE WOULD HAVE CARRIED A GREAT FALSEHOOD AND A GREAT SIN.

Points to discuss:

1-    One earns a sin, does not acquire it be chance or mistake.  To earn it is to have full intention to do the sin, and to do the deed of sinning with total free will, and do what needs to be done.  No one inherits a sin or has it passed over to him.

One might do a good deed without full intention, and Allah the Highest rewards us for it, but not sinning.  For Example, if some one or thing eats from your tree or sits in its shade or rests on its trunk, it is a good deed, even though one might not have intended it.

2-    Whenever a person sins, he/she is sinning primarily against his own soul.  His own soul is the first and main sufferer.  Even if a person is killing another, depriving him and his family of his life, this is little compared to the suffering the killer will endure in the Hereafter.  Allah the Highest said: “WHOEVER TRANSGRESSES ALLAH’S LIMITS, HE HAS TRANSGRESSED AGAINST HIS OWN SELF”.  (S:65 A:1)

3-    It is even a greater sin to earn a sin then accuse another of that sin.  In fact to accuse another person with committing a sin they did not commit, is a great sin.  Even speaking badly of another Muslim is sinful, even if in the way of mocking or jesting, or speaking of suspicions.  Allah the Highest said: “YOU WHO BELIEVE, AVOID SUSPICIONS OF EACH OTHER, FOR SOME OF THESE SUSPICIONS ARE SINS, AND DO NOT SPY ON EACH OTHER, AND DO NOT LET ONE SPEAK BADLY ABOUT THE OTHER BEHIND HIS BACK, WOULD ONE OF YOU LIKE TO EACH THE FLESH OF HIS BROTHER, YOU SURELY HATE IT, AND BE PIOUS AND GUARD YOURSELVES FROM ALLAH’S DISPLEASURE, FOR ALLAH IS MOST FORGIVING AND MOST MERCIFUL”.  (S:49 A:12)

Speaking badly about one another does not necessarily mean telling lies about them, but saying bad things about them even if they are true.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Do you know what is speaking badly of your brother behind your brother’s back is”.  They said: “Allah and His messenger know best”.  He said: “It is to say about your brother what he does not like”.  He was asked: “What if what I say about my brother is true”.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “If what you say about him is true, you have spoken badly about him behind his back, but if it is not true, then you have told a great lie about him”.  (B:Ber;70 & D:Adab;36 & T:Ber;23 & Da:Reqaq;6 & A:2;230,384)
