135- YOU WHO BELIEVE, STAND FIRMLY FOR JUSTICE AND LET YOUR TESTIMONY BE FOR ALLAH, EVEN IF AGAINST YOURSELVES, OR YOUR PARENTS AND CLOSE KIN, WHETHER RICH OR POOR, ALLAH IS KNOWS AND IS CLOSE TO THEM, SO DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR DESIRES WHICH TAKE YOU AWAY FROM JUSTICE, AND IF YOU DEVIATE IN YOUR TESTIMONY, OR AVOID GIVING IT, THEN ALLAH KNOWS WELL ALL YOU DO.
Allah the Highest is commanding us as the best nation to have the best character and way of life. Allah the Highest said: “YOU ARE THE BEST NATION THAT HAS BEEN RAISED FOR MANKIND; YOU ENJOIN WHAT IS WRITE, FORBID WHAT IS WRONG AND BELIEVE IN ALLAH” (S:3 A:110)
The best nation should be a just nation:
1- “STAND FIRMLY FOR JUSTICE”. The believers should stand firmly for justice for every one and everywhere. Justice should be upheld for the enemy and friends, for the strangers and relations, for the non-Muslims and Muslims. Justice should be upheld and defended regardless of for whom.
2- “LET YOUR TESTIMONY BE FOR ALLAH, EVEN IF AGAINST YOURSELVES, OR YOUR PARENTS AND CLOSE KIN”. When one is giving a testimony, whether it is to ordinary people, or judge, the person is in fact giving this testimony to Allah. In fact, standing firmly for justice is standing firmly for Allah the Highest who said: “YOU WHO BELIEVE, STAND FIRMLY FOR ALLAH AND BE JUST WITNESSES”. (S:5 A:8)
Justice is certainly an integral part of Allah’s Faith. A true believer should never be unjust knowingly or intentionally.
Indeed, Allah the Highest has forbidden himself from being unjust before forbidding us. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said that Allah the Highest and Blessed said: “O my slaves, I have forbidden my self to be unjust and I have forbidden injustice among you, so do not be unjust to each other”. (M: Ber; 55)
3- Justice should be upheld, even if against ourselves, our parents or our close kin. Our hatred to some people should not make us unjust to them for such injustice will be a crime. Allah the Highest said: “YOU WHO BELIEVE, STAND FIRMLY FOR ALLAH AND BE JUST WITNESSES, AND DO NOT LET THE HATRED OF A GROUP OF PEOPLE MAKE YOU COMMIT THE CRIME OF INJUSTICE, BE JUST, FOR THIS IS THE NEAREST TO PIETY”. (S:5 A:8)
4- Giving true testimony against ourselves, our parent, close kin or the loved ones in general is helping them not making them suffer. This is because if a person is punished for the wrong he or she does, saves them from the punishment in the Hereafter, which is much more severe. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “He who does wrong and is punished for it, the punishment is its ransom”. (M:Eman;29,30 & D:Adab;124 & A:2;45,61)
5- Giving testimony for or against a rich or poor person, should not make any difference, for the testimony should be of the truth only. We should not be swayed in our testimony by or likes or dislikes of the rich and the poor. Justice should be delivered to every person, regardless or their wealth or status.
