137- THOSE WHO BELIEVE THEN DISBELIEVE, AND THEM BELIEVE THEN DISBELIEVE THEN INCREASE IN DISBELIEVING, ALLAH WOULD NOT FORGIVE THEM OR GUIDE THEM TO THE RIGHT PATH.

138- GIVE THE HYPOCRITES THESE NEWS, THEY WILL HAVE PAINFUL PUNISHMENT.

139- THOSE WHO TAKE THE DISBELIEVERS FOR ALLIES INSTEAD OF THE BELIEVERS, ARE THEY SEEKING SUPPORT AND STRENGTH FROM THEM, BUT ALL THE SUPPORT AND STRENGTH IS WITH ALLAH.

Allah the Highest is telling us about two types of people in these Ayahs:

Those who disbelieved after having believed; then believed and then disbelieved and then they disbelieved even more, do not have anything to do with the believers.  They tasted belief, but choose disbelief instead.  Allah the Highest does not forgive them and part of His anger with them is to withhold His guidance from them.

Then there are the hypocrites, particularly those who take the disbelievers for allies and supporters instead of the believers.  They seek to be protected by their strength, forgetting that all the strength and power is with Allah the Highest.  This is because the disbelievers will never support the believers –unless it suites their own purposes- because of good reasons Allah the Highest mentioned to us:

1-    They do not love us.  Allah the Highest who knows best said: “SEE HOW YOU LOVE THEM, BUT THEY DO NOT LOVE YOU”.  (S:3 A:119)

2-    They will never be happy with us unless we become Jews or Christians.  Allah the Highest said: “NEVER WILL THE JEWS OR THE CHRISTIANS BE PLEASED WITH YOU UNLESS YOU FOLLOW THEIR CREED”.  (S:2 A:120)

3-    They never wish any thing good to happen to us.  Allah the Highest said: “IF SOMETHING GOOD COMES TO YOU, IT UPSETS THEM, BUT IF AN AFFLICTION BEFALLS YOU, IT PLEASES THEM”.  (S:3 A:120)

4-    They spare no effort to corrupt us and lead us into their ways and their way of life.  “YOU WHO BELIEVE, DO NOT TAKE THOSE WHO ARE NOT OF YOURSELVES FOR INTIMATE FRIENDS AND CONFIDANTS, THEY SPARE NO EFFORT TO CORRUPT YOU, AND DESIRE YOUR RUIN AND HARDSHIP.  HATRED IS REVEALED THROUGH THEIR MOUTH BUT WHAT THEIR HEARTS HIDE IS EVEN GREATER”.  (S:3 A:118)

5-    Whenever they have the upper hand on us, they treat us badly, and have no mercy.  Allah the Highest said: “HOW WILL YOU HAVE TREATIES WITH THEM, WHEN IF THEY HAVE THE UPPER HAND OVER YOU, THEY WILL SHOW YOU NEITHER RESPECT NOR MERCY,  THEY PLEASE YOU WITH THEIR TONGUES, BUT THEIR HEARTS DO NOT, AND MOST OF THEM ARE EVIL DOERS”.  (S:9 A:8)

If any one can not see this, see how they dealt with Iraq and Afghanistan, Kashmir, Chechnya, and Palestine.  Therefore we should not take the disbelievers for allies and supporters, because we will be let down.

The Muslims should not take any people incurring Allah’s Anger and Wroth for allies and supporters, this alienates Allah the Highest who said: “YOU WHO BELIEVE, DO NOT TAKE FOR ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS PEOPLE WHO INCURRED ALLAH’S ANGER, THEY LOST HOPE IN THE HEREAFTER JUST AS THE DISBELIEVERS LOST HOPE OF THE DEAD IN THE GRAVES”.  (S: 5 A: 13)

Allah the Highest tells us in no uncertain terms not to take the Jews and Christians as allies and supporters, saying: “YOU WHO BELIEVE, DO NOT TAKE THE JEWS AND THE CHRISTIANS AS ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS, THEY ARE ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS TO EACH OTHER, THOSE WHO TAKE THEM FOR ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS ARE OF THEM, AND ALLAH DOES NOT GUIDE THE EVIL DOERS”. (S: 5 A: 51)

Not even if they are our closest blood relations,, for Allah the Highest said: “YOU WHO BELIEVE, DO NOT TAKE YOUR FATHERS AND BROTHERS AS ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS IF THEY PREFER BELIEF TO DISBELIEF, AND THOSE OF YOU WHO TAKES THEM FOR ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS ARE THE EVIL DOERS”.  (S: 9 A: 23)

In fact, those who are known through their believes and deeds to be enemies of Allah are our enemies also and should not be taken for allies and supporters.  Allah the Highest said: “YOU WHO BELIEVE, DO NOT TAKE MY ENEMIES AND YOUR ENEMIES FOR ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS”.  (S:60 A:1)

The only real and true allies and supporters the Muslims may have are Allah the Highest, His messenger prayer and peace upon him and the believers of true Faith.  Allah the Highest said: “BUT YOUR ALLY AND SUPPORTER IS ALLAH, HIS MESSENGER, AND THE BELIEVERS, THOSE WHO ARE STEADFAST IN SALAH, PAY ZAKAH AND BOW TO ALLAH * AND THOSE WHO TAKE ALLAH AND HIS MESSENGER FOR ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS, CERTAINLY ALLAH’S PARTY WILL BE VICTORIOUS”.  (S:5 A:56,57)

This however does not mean being unjust or unkind to them, if they live among us or we live among them.  As long as they do not fight us or our Faith or push the Muslims out of their homes, Allah the Highest commanded us to be kind and just with them saying: “ALLAH DOES NOT FORBID YOU FROM BEING GOOD, KIND AND JUST TO THOSE WHO DID NOT FIGHT YOU CONCERNING YOUR RELIGION, AND DID NOT DRIVE YOU OUT OF YOUR HOMES, FOR ALLAH LOVES THOSE WHO ARE JUST * BUT ALLAH FORBIDS YOU FROM BEING ALLIES TO THOSE WHO FOUGHT YOU CONCERNING YOUR RELIGION AND DRIVE YOU OUT OF YOUR HOMES OR HELPED TO DRIVE YOU OUT OF YOUR HOMES, AND AS FOR THOSE WHO TAKE THEM FOR ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS, THEY ARE THE EVIL-DOERS”.  (S:60 A:7,8)

On one occasion, one of the disbelievers wanted to join the Muslim army going to a battle, but Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him refused.

On another occasion, in a very difficult time for the Muslims when they knew that a 3000 men strong army was marching from Makah to fight them, some of the Ansar sought of seeking the help of the Jews of the Medina who were their allies before Islam.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said to them: “We do not need them”.  (Ibn Is,haq)

For the Muslims gain victory over their enemy only through Allah’s support, not the support of those Allah the Highest is angry with.  Allah’s support is what the Muslims should seek first and foremost.  Allah the Highest said: “SHOULD ALLAH SUPPORTS YOU, NO ONE CAN DEFEAT YOU; BUT IF HE ABANDONS YOU, NO ONE CAN SUPPORT YOU AFTER HIM, AND IN ALLAH THE BELIEVERS SHOULD PUT THEIR TRUST”.  (S:3 A:160)
