141- THOSE WHO WAIT AND WATCH, IF YOU HAVE VICTORY FROM ALLAH, THEY WOULD SAY: “WERE WE NOT WITH YOU?” BUT IF THE DISBELIEVERS HAVE A SHARE OF WINNING, THEY WOULD SAY (TO THEM): “WERE WE NOT ALL AROUND YOU AND PROTECT YOU FROM THE BELIEVERS?” ALLAH WILL JUDGE BETWEEN YOU ON THE DAY OF RESURRECTION, AND ALLAH WILL NEVER LET THE DISBELIEVERS BE TRIUMPHANT OVER THE BELIEVERS.
In this Ayah there is a warning and there is a promise from Allah the Highest:
The Warning is about the hypocrites. They are two faced to both the Muslims and the non-Muslims, to both the believers and disbelievers. They do not give the any real support to the believers or disbelievers, and never fight with either. However, whenever the believers or disbelievers win, the hypocrites claim some credit to this winning.
They claim to support each side, but give no real support to either, However whenever one wins, the claim to have played an important part in this. They will never risk their lives on either party side in the battle field.
The Promise is in the Allah’s saying: “AND ALLAH WILL NEVER LET THE DISBELIEVERS BE TRIUMPHANT OVER THE BELIEVERS”
What king of Triumph?
The greatest triumph is winning in the Hereafter and gaining entry to Paradise, which the disbelievers will not have any part of.
Allah the Highest is promising the believers that the disbelievers will never have an outright triumph over them which destroys the Muslim nation. Through out history and to the present day, there have been times when the believers were weak, and the disbelievers defeated their armies and occupied their land. However, thanks to Allah, they never succeeded in the destruction or eradication of the Muslim nation.
Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was seen praying a long Salah, he was asked: “Allah’s messenger, you prayed not as your usual Salah?” He said: “I prayed in hope and fear. I asked for three things in this Salah, I was granted two and denied one. I asked Him (Allah) not to destroy my nation with famine afflicting all of them, and He granted this to me; and I asked Him not to let their enemy totally overcome and destroy them, and He granted me this; and I asked Him not to let them fight each other, but He denied me this”. (T: Fetan; 14 & D: Fetan; 1)
We can see that Allah the Highest fulfilled His promise, and here we are fighting each other.
The degree of each person belief changes, increasing and decreasing, so is the degree of the Muslim nation’s belief, it rises and falls. When our belief rises and we are closer to Allah, Allah’s support will be more forthcoming, according to the level of our belief. When the level of our belief falls, Allah’s support to us falls too, and this can be seen throughout our history. It is no use learning history of we do not learn from it, for learning from history is the most important benefit of learning history. There is a great deal for the Muslims to learn from their history, our history.
