160- IT IS BECAUSE OF THE WICKEDNESS OF THE JEWS, WE HAVE FORBIDDEN THEM SOME OF THE GOOD THINGS THEY WERE PERMITTED, ALSO BECAUSE OF OBSTRUCTING THE PATH OF MANY PEOPLE TO ALLAH.

161- AND BECAUSE THEY TAKE USURY WHICH THEY WERE FORBIDDEN, AND BECAUSE OF TAKING PEOPLE’S MONEY THROUGH FALSEHOOD, AND WE HAVE PREPARED PAINFUL PUNISHMENT FOR THE DISBELIEVERS OF THEM.

162- HOWEVER THOSE OF THEM WHO ARE WELL GROUNDED IN KNOWLEDGE, AND THE BELIEVERS, THEY BELIEVE IN WHAT WAS SENT DOWN TO YOU AND WHAT WAS SENT DOWN BEFORE YOU, ALSO THOSE WHO STEADFAST IN SALAH AND THOSE WHO GIVE ZAKAH, AND THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN ALLAH AND THE LAST DAY, WE WILL GIVE THOSE A GREAT REWARD.

Allah the Highest is telling us about the Jews and why some foods were forbidden to them as a punishment for their transgressions.  This is not only for us to know, but more important for us to take heed and avoid making similar or same mistakes.  They are punished in this life lightly, and this is just to show Allah’s Displeasure with them, the punishment in the Hereafter is painful.

Allah the Highest lists some of the Jews Transgressions, the ones they are being punished for:

1-    They have forbidden themselves some foods Allah the Highest did not forbid them.  Jacob peace upon him was sick and he vowed that when Allah heals him he will not eat some food he liked like camel’s meat.  This was before the Torah was sent down after Jacob’s life with all the prohibitions which did not include those Jacob peace upon him did not allow himself.  The Jews went on with Jacob’s prohibitions.  Allah the Highest only may prohibit people the good things He created for them.  Prohibiting what Allah the Highest did not prohibit is a transgression against Allah’s Authority, who said: “O MANKIND, EAT OUT OF WHAT IS ON EARTH, HALAL (LAWFUL) AND PURE, AND DO NOT FOLLOW THE FOOTSTEPS OF SATAN, FOR HE IS A CLEAR ENEMY TO YOU”.  (S:2 A:168)

2-    Obstructing people’s Path to Allah is preventing others from knowing Allah the Highest and getting close to Him by various means.

Disbelieving does not obstruct a person’s path to Allah the Highest only, but may obstruct the path to others who look up to him and take him or her as a leader. 

Actively denying, arguing against, fighting against the truth by direct and indirect means like through the media; is obstructing people’s Path to Allah.

3-    Taking usury which is forbidden to them and this is mentioned in the Torah.  However, they Torah have been perverted to say that it is not wrong to take usury from non-Jews.

4-    They take people’s money through falsehood i.e. wrong means.  This they consider legitimate as they perverted their scripture to say that it is alright to be honest to the non-Jews.  Allah the Highest said: “AND OF THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK THOSE WHOM IF YOU ENTRUST WITH A HOARD OF GOLD, WILL REPAY IT BACK, AND OF THEM THOSE WHOM IF YOU ENTRUST WITH A DINAR (GOLD COIN), THEY DO NOT PAY IT BACK UNLESS YOU ARE PERSISTENTLY DEMANDING.  THIS IS BECAUSE THEY SAY: “WE HAVE NO DUTY TO THE IGNORANT (NON JEWS)”, AND THEY TELL LIES CONCERNING ALLAH WHILE THEY KNOW”.   (S:3 A:75)

Allah the Highest prepared a Painful punishment for them in the Hereafter, however the mild punishment in this life is just to show them Allah’s disapproval and anger.

There is an exemption however, there are those of the Jews who are of deep knowledge, who have no difficulty seeing the truth and following it.  They follow the Faith and the Last Prophet Mohamed prayer and peace upon him, praying our Salah and pay Zakah; they are Muslims and are rewarded with the Muslims, they are promised a great reward.
